Gail E. Haley (born 1939) is an American author and illustrator. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She married mathematician Joseph A. Haley in 1959. Her first book, My Kingdom for a Dragon was published in 1962. She won the Caldecott Medal in 1971 for her retelling of African folktale A Story a Story (1970), and the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1976 for The Post Office Cat.
